Lessons in Raising a Teenager, Part III

All ye Southern Californians: Rest easy. The Teenager and his Teenager buddies, Spiky and Goofy, will not be driving to Tinseltown tomorrow.

Spiky and Goofy bailed. It’s not entirely clear why. A lot of grunting and a few noises that sounded like girlfriend and job and car emanated from Teenager’s Stinky Palace this evening.

Queen Mom said, “Welcome to life, kiddo.”

Queen Mom thought, Thank GOD, I can SLEEP this weekend after all!

Lesson #3: Let life happen. Anything less only annoys the Teenager.

Lina, you really must find yourself a teenager. Endless entertainment, I tell you, endless!

They don't know what they're missing. But maybe they aren't excited about a Thrillerfest reunion.

Drive safe.

I'm sure you're relieved. And hey, you showed you're a cool mom by letting him go. Something tells me he'll be asking again soon.

Derek, ssshhhh! They weren't supposed to know!!!

Plantation, your boy is such a sweetie, it's hard to imagine...but your day will come!

Dammit! And here I was all ready to hook him up with the strippers and booze.

Oh well, I suppose jail's one of those experiences you'd rather he didn't have, huh?

Leave it to Blackmoore to corrupt the next generation.

See, Elizabeth... You won both ways.

1. You let him go;
2. He didn't go.

Cool.

I'll bet some of the words that didn't emanate from the palace but are the REAL reason why the two friends bailed are:

Mom and Dad said 'No.'

"Leave it to Blackmoore to corrupt the next generation."

Hey, if I don't, who will?

Hmm. Kinda scary when YOUR friends are bigger reprobates than your son's, huh Elizabeth?!

Word Ver. is out of control - emdjxomy?! WTF!

M.G., as it turns out, none of the various and sundry parents involved would trust automobiles registered in their own names on a 1,000 mile journey in the hands of three kids named Teenager, Goofy and Spiky.

Wonder why.

Angie, sadly, you're not the first person who has pointed out the disreputable quality of my friends. Not quite sure what to make of that.

What a relief. Of course, if I had kids that age, I would be counting the minutes till they're 18 so I can take over their room and make it into a scrapbooking room.

The good news is, when the disappointment comes from the friends, the resentment isn't at Mom.

awwww--I feel bad for him...only cuz I had WAY too many friends bale on me in my younger years. well, it made me more determined (and stubborn?) in the end. But at least he can't blame you for not taking the trip! (lucky you).

In the end, you got your way. And that's what's most important. At least that's how I look at things. Maybe that's why I'm not a parent.

Elizabeth Krecker said...

Dana, my son is my only child and we are very close. It's too painful to think of scrapbooking rooms just yet!

Sandra and Jessie, you are soooo right! In spite of a week of sleepless nights, I'm now officially glad I caved!

Then again, there was that spell from Anne! ;-)

Cheetarah, when you have kids you will quickly learn that they have an agenda all their own which rarely, if ever, coincides with yours!

My teenager is now twenty-one, and I look back with relief that she made it. But I also look back with disappointment, because none of her friends were named Spiky, Teenager, or Goofy. I feel like I really missed out.

Elizabeth Krecker said...

Wait till you meet Spiky. You'll never look at life quite the same again.

Oh my. . . . checking air fare to Phoenix.

Not to sound whiny or anything, but when you're done sleeping, will you post again?

Ducks and runs...
